Di Grassi out-qualifies Glock for first time

26 June 2010

Lucas di Grassi will start 21st in Sunday’s European Grand Prix although the Brazilian rookie is pleased to have set a quicker final qualifying lap than team-mate Timo Glock for the first time. However, Lucas stresses that Virgin Racing’s sole target remains the same.

Virgin joined Lotus and Hispania as a debutant outfit at the start of the campaign, something di Grassi confirms is the main factor of 2010.

“I’m slowly getting up to the pace, especially in qualifying when we’re using two types of tyres,” he told the BBC. “I’m very pleased with my lap, it’s the first time I’ve out-qualified my team-mate and hopefully it’s the first of many!

“I’ve been running on Timo’s pace a lot, especially in races, but our main gap as a team is still to be the best of the new teams and beat Lotus.”
