Schumacher calls for pit light explanation

27 June 2010

Michael Schumacher has said that he wishes for the regulations to be explained in detail with regards to the red light at the end of the pit lane. With the light illuminated in the European Grand Prix, the Mercedes driver was forced to wait as the entire field passed him.

Schumacher’s second miserable weekend in a row started on Saturday as he was eliminated in Q2 qualifying and endured his worst grid position of the season so far. In the race, the 7-time World Champion pitted for softer tyres under Safety Car conditions on Lap 11, only to vigilantly then spot the red light.

“What a race,” he said. “We would like to have clarification about the Safety Car situation, as the red light on the exit from my first pit-stop destroyed a race which otherwise would have offered us very good possibilities.

“Our point of view is that, as the Safety Car had passed the pits without having the cars lined up behind it, there should not have been a red light. There was a green light for a moment and then suddenly it went red again. We believe that this was not correct.”
