De la Rosa loses point in European Grand Prix

27 June 2010

Pedro de la Rosa has been deprived of the point he scored in Sunday’s European Grand Prix due to a 5-second time penalty which was also received by eight other drivers.

The nine drivers in question were all punished for driving too quickly under Safety Car conditions, having needed to return to the finish line only when a countdown timer in the cockpit had reached zero (in order to prevent higher speeds than permitted under Safety Car conditions).

Six of the drivers affected were points scorers although only de la Rosa loses a chance to finish in the top ten, as he slips from 10th to 12th. Fellow point-scorer Sébastien Buemi is now classified 9th as opposed to 8th, promoting Fernando Alonso one place. Nico Rosberg moves into the points for Mercedes GP as Felipe Massa just misses out.

De la Rosa’s point, picked up in home country Spain, would have been his first for Sauber and first since 2006 as well as marking a double-scoring day for the team.
