Sutil pleased with ‘pretty amazing’ result

28 June 2010

Adrian Sutil collected another strong points finish for Force India as he crossed the finish line sixth in Sunday’s European Grand Prix. The result confirms that Adrian now sits only three points behind fellow German and 7-time World Champion Michael Schumacher in the drivers’ standings.

After managing a difficult tenth in Montreal, Sutil registered his fifth successive points finish in Valencia and has now scored in six of the ninth Grands Prix so far in 2010.

“It was an interesting race for me and a very good result in the end; from 13th to sixth - it's pretty amazing for us, one of the best races so far this season,” he said.

“We made the call to come into the pits at the right time - when the Safety Car went out I was in the last sector and could go in the pits straight away and then moved up the order when the front guys came in.”

Having been placed 12th before the Safety Car, Adrian ran seventh as the race restarted on Lap 14 of 57. “I could pass Buemi on-track and in the end it was sixth position,” Sutil continued. “I think we did everything right today and it's a very positive result for the team to keep the points coming in.”

However, team-mate Vitantonio Liuzzi lost time during the Safety Car period and finished the race in a lowly 16th. “Basically we came in at the same time and, as Adrian was ahead on the road, he was stopped in front of me and I had to wait for him to finish and then I got blocked by Petrov in the pit lane,” the Italian explained.

Liuzzi and Petrov’s close call was later cleared by race stewards, as was a similar pit lane moment between Sébastien Buemi and Nico Hülkenberg.
