Hispania Racing drivers Karun Chandhok and Bruno Senna were left experiencing a mixture of feelings after the European Grand Prix, as the pair were eventually classified 18th and 20th in Valencia.
19th and 20th had been the original HRT result although the Indian jumped up when Virgin Racing’s Timo Glock received a 20-second penalty for ignoring blue flags.
“It was a reasonable race for me,” said Chandhok. “The pace early on was reasonably good but then I started to struggle with the Option (softer) tyres.
"We decided to pit under the Safety Car and switch to Primes (harder tyres), which was a good decision as I was able to then settle into a rhythm and pull away from Bruno.
“At the end though, having done 47 laps on one set of tyres, I didn’t quite have enough pace to fight against Timo and he managed to muscle past on the final lap. All in all, I am quite pleased with the job I did today and it’s good for the team to get two cars to the finish in front of their home supporters.”
“It was a frustrating race today,” added Brazilian Senna, who had joined his team-mate on the back row of the starting grid. “Unfortunately, there was the incident with Timo Glock when my front wing was damaged; this happened during the blue flag moment we both got for a lapping car but it’s good to finish the race again after not having finished the last three.”
