Button to drive Hamilton title-winner at Goodwood

1 July 2010

As well as the man himself, Jenson Button will be piloting Lewis Hamilton’s MP4-23 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend. The car took the former to five race victories – Australia, Monaco, Britain, Germany and China - en route to the championship in 2008.

A selection of drivers will be present at the ever-popular show this weekend as a mixture of old and new machinery is placed on display, with crowds being fortunate to then see most of it making its way up the legendary hill with famous names behind the wheel.

“I’m really looking forward to Goodwood,” Button said on his website. “For this year, I’m going to be driving two famous McLarens - Lewis’ championship-winning MP4-23 from 2008 - it’s funny…even though it’s only a few years ago, you kind of forget just how many aero parts were on these cars - and Alain Prost’s 1986 car - the MP4/2C.

“I’ve already had a seat-fitting and it’s just a different world - when I’m sat in the cockpit, there’s no lateral protection, I can touch the suspension wishbones, I can even touch the floor. Those guys must have been pretty fearless to have raced those things back then. It’s a really cool car.”
