Halfway through Lap 26 of the British Grand Prix will mark the central point of the 2010 Formula 1 season. Before visiting a new-look Silverstone, GPUpdate.net reviews each driver’s performances, including highs and lows, from the first nine races of a highly dramatic championship.

Di Grassi was one of the last drivers to be signed up for this season, boosting Brazil’s Formula 1 numbers to four alongside Barrichello, Massa and fellow newcomer Senna. Ironically, Lucas had been tipped stronger in previous years for a Renault seat although the former development driver at Enstone eventually made his debut with Sheffield-based Virgin Racing.
Having suffered from much unreliability, results aren’t really anything to go by but early signs show promise for the 25-year-old, who out-qualified more experienced team-mate and ex GP2 title rival Timo Glock for the first time in Valencia. Also, to his credit, Lucas is yet to retire through driver error, proving that he is far less erratic than Paulista predecessors Massa or Enrique Bernoldi, to name just two.
If an underperforming car wasn’t frustrating enough, Lucas also had to wait until the seventh race before receiving a fuel tank which was large enough to actually finish a race. So, because of such bizarre happenings, it’s almost unfair to judge Lucas so far although you can hardly say – from a driving point of view – that it’s been bad.
Hopefully, with better machinery at his disposal, we’ll gain more valuable pointers in the second half of the year.
