5 July 2010

American driver Jonathan Summerton is working with Formula 1 hopefuls Cypher Group, the latter has confirmed to GPUpdate.net, with regards to a debut in 2011. The company, made up of ex-US F1 engineers plus other members, has already revealed that it is in a technical partnership with a current F1 manufacturer and hopes to be accepted by F1 governing body the FIA.

Hailing from Kissimmee in Florida, 22-year-old Summerton started racing go-karts at the age of 14 before moving up to Formula BMW USA in 2004. Two years later came the Formula 3 Euroseries, in which he enjoyed a race victory at Hockenheim.

Between the end of the year and 2008, Jonathan competed in the now defunct A1 Grand Prix series and was racing in Firestone Indy Lights earlier this year.

'I am so glad to be working with Cypher Group towards my dreams of F1!' he said via his personal Twitter account.
