We have something others don’t, says Silverstone boss

6 July 2010

Silverstone head Richard Phillips is delighted with the way the circuit has been revamped ahead of this weekend’s British Grand Prix. Furthermore, the Managing Director of the Northamptonshire track is confident that the venue can offer more than the likes of the all-new Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi made its Formula 1 debut by staging the season-closing race of last year; despite Silverstone’s history dating as far back as the first ever World Championship race in 1950, Phillips is confident that the atmosphere in England this weekend will be second to none.

“Abu Dhabi built a hotel that lights up in different ways and that's absolutely fantastic,” he said to Reuters, “but have we got a better circuit than they have?

"Yes, I think we have. Have we got better crowds, a better atmosphere? Yes. We've got all those things, so we've got something that they will never have.”

Expecting crowds of 120,000, Phillips believes value for money will be very much enjoyed. “If we can absolutely perfect our track and everything we do build is cutting-edge and spectacular, then why wouldn't people think that we are the best in the world?” he summed up.
