The Premier Inn hotel at Brackley Hatch, a short car journey from Silverstone and a popular location for race fans and teams alike, has been destroyed by a fire just three days before this year’s British Grand Prix weekend begins.
Situated on the A43 between Silverstone village and Syresham, the Premier Inn is located behind the popular Green Man pub, which itself is an annual home for team members on race weekends.
However, firefighters from the RAF Croughton, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire Fire Brigades were called out on Tuesday night.
“This is certainly the worst fire that we have had in the area,” Dermot Bambridge, Chairman of South Northants Council, explained to local news website AboutMyArea. “There was a fire sometime ago there but I think it was only in the kitchen.
“There are blue flashing lights outside as fire appliances come to Silverstone village to use the Fire Hydrants. I went up to see if there was anything I could do; the Premier Inn hotel was down to the first floor windows on the outside and was still burning. The Green Man itself appeared to be intact. Let’s just hope that everyone is safe.”
The disaster leaves both team members and race fans without accommodation ahead of this weekend’s on-track action. “I am sure that the South Northants area will rally round and help find accommodation for the people booked to stay there at such a busy time for the circuit,” Bambridge added. “I spoke to one bed and breakfast operator who had been booked for months for this weekend.”
This amateur video footage, filmed at approximately 8am this morning, shows the remains of the hotel behind the Green Man pub plus the presence of emergency services:
