Alonso positive over Ferrari’s Silverstone upgrades

6 July 2010

Fernando Alonso is confident that Ferrari can stay in the hunt as more updated car parts make an appearance at Silverstone this weekend. The Spaniard, who is yet to win since Bahrain and was left fuming after Valencia, is hoping the British circuit’s new section will help Ferrari’s cause.

Having been furious to see Lewis Hamilton finish second in the European Grand Prix, despite the Englishman taking a drive-through penalty for passing the Safety Car, Alonso heads to Britain fifth in the World Championship and 29 points off the lead.

“In Valencia, we introduced significant updates on the F10 and there will be more at Silverstone and the races after that,” Alonso began. “The development programme is intensive and I think we will see it produce results.

“We have also prepared very carefully from the physical point of view, given that the next events are all very close and you need to be at a hundred percent all the time.”

Fernando will inspect Silverstone’s new surface with engineers on Thursday morning and believes one of Ferrari’s strengths will be quick corners. “I remain optimistic,” he continued, not forgetting the possible weather conditions either. “There is always a chance of rain playing its part at Silverstone.

“I would be very surprised to have a completely dry weekend and we will be ready to tackle any situation which comes our way.”
