Formula 1 governing body the FIA has confirmed that 1992 World Champion Nigel Mansell will be the racing driver in Race Control this weekend as Silverstone prepares for its first race with the brand-new Arena circuit configuration.

With the FIA having introduced the idea of placing one driver – past or present – alongside three other stewards for each race this season, Mansell’s becomes the ninth different name to take a turn since the start of the season.
Having entered F1 in 1980 with Lotus, Upton-upon-Severn’s Mansell enjoyed a maiden win at Brands Hatch five years later but narrowly missed the world title in 1986, 1987 and 1991, losing out to Alain Prost, Nélson Piquet and Ayrton Senna respectively.
Following a stint with Ferrari, Nigel returned to Williams and finally took the crown for courtesy of a dominant 1992 campaign before becoming the first man to hold titles in both F1 and IndyCars at the same time.
