Williams F1 have revealed that outgoing Chief Executive Officer Adam Parr has now taken on the role of Chairman from founder Sir Frank Williams. However, the latter remains Team Principal ahead of the 2011 season.
Thursday’s news, revealed at Silverstone, means that 68-year-old Williams has handed the general running of the team to Parr although Sir Frank stressed to reporters that he will not be retiring from the sport.
“I want to emphasise, very strongly, that this is absolutely not my notice of impending retirement,” he said. “I love Formula 1, still have a strong involvement in the company and go to work every day...when I'll be retiring hasn't crossed my mind yet.”
Parr is delighted with his new role, meaning he is now at the forefront of Williams Grand Prix Engineering. “Frank remains Team Principal and therefore the face and inspiration of the team,” he stressed, “but it's an enormous responsibility because Williams is a great company.
“Frank has been competing in F1 since 1969 and the Williams team since 1977; the goal is to be doing that for decades to come and I’m very honoured to be part of it.”
Parr's former position of CEO is now assumed by Alex Burns, who steps up from being Chief Operating Officer.
