Dell joins Lotus as chief technical partner

9 July 2010

Lotus Racing has confirmed a new partnership with Dell, which becomes an Official Technical Supplier. The American IT company will now provide equipment and support to the Norfolk-based outfit, both at its Hingham base and at circuits.

With the 1Malaysia squad having joined the Formula 1 fraternity at the start of the year, Lotus is now expanding its technical portfolio by making best use of Dell's supercomputer hardware and software for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). PowerEdge servers at the factory will also contribute to greater security.

“One of the first priorities in creating our team from the ground up was to identify a technology partner who could provide a variety of IT solutions for us as soon as possible,” explained Lotus IT head Bill Peters, “and one who could be flexible enough to meet our demands both at the factory and at the track.

“With less than 22 weeks build time, that’s a big ask, but Dell were our only choice for the role. Dell delivered in terms of hardware, software and most importantly in terms of support and adaptability. I am very pleased that the mission critical work we have done together over the past six months can formally be recognised today on the eve of the British Grand Prix."
