Di Resta driving under family supervision

9 July 2010

Paul di Resta's outing at Silverstone saw the Scot finish first practice 14th quickest on Friday morning, just under a tenth of a second behind Fernando Alonso's Ferrari. The Uphall, West Lothian man was pleased to have driven in front of a selection of family members.

Briefly replacing one of the team's regular race drivers on a number of weekends this year, di Resta's latest practice session left him with a best effort of 1:34.580 as opposed to fastest man Sebastian Vettel's 1:32.280 around the new Arena circuit.

“I've got some family coming and my dad's coming to see me for the first time this year,” Paul said on the run-up to the weekend.

“He deserves as much credit as I do for where I've got to; he sacrificed more than I did and gave me the opportunity. He's been busy with my brother in karting, so I'm looking forward to him coming to watch.”

However, the 24-year-old admits that handing the car back over to Vitantonio Liuzzi is by no means easy. “It's difficult,” di Resta continued. “In Valencia the track improved by three seconds from one session to the other - it was so tricky, the first session; the tyres didn't last very long but we know that's the way it is and it's something I have to deal with. I can't wait to get back out there.”
