Yamamoto delighted with drive on 28th birthday

9 July 2010

As Sakon Yamamoto turned 28 on Friday, the Japanese driver took over in Bruno Senna's cockpit after a last-minute change to replace the Brazilian at Hispania. While Jarno Trulli and Lotus suffered from problems, the second Japanese driver in the field finished 23rd quickest.

Seven tenths down on team-mate Karun Chandhok, former Super Aguri and Spyker driver Yamamoto was pleased with his performance as HRT finally issued a press release - during the second practice session - to confirm that he would remain in the car all weekend-long.

“It was a brilliant day for me to be back in Formula 1 since 2007, especially as it is my birthday today,” Yamamoto said after the second session. “It is the first Friday afternoon run for me since I did for Hispania in Istanbul.

“Today, we were able to follow our programme and everything was going quite well. I tried to understand the differences between the Prime (Hard compound) and the Option (Soft compound) tyres, because it is my first time of driving on the Option, but we are well prepared for tomorrow.”
