Kubica not likely to use new front wing on Saturday

9 July 2010

Robert Kubica and Renault are likely to revert to their previous specification of front wing after trialling a new version at Silverstone on Friday. As the Pole finished the day eleventh on the timesheets, it was Russian team-mate Vitaly Petrov who set the quickest pace for Enstone as he wound up in seventh place.

Still on the hunt for Mercedes’ fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship, Renault enjoyed a trouble-free day on Friday whereas the majority of rivals struggled to get to grips with the Silverstone Arena circuit.

“It has been a fairly normal Friday for us,” Kubica began. “Of course there is a new layout this year, so I had to get a feeling for the braking points and the lines, but to be honest it only took a couple of laps. We then evaluated a new front wing but we will probably use the older spec for the rest of the weekend.”

“There is a big bump at Turn 11,” Petrov added of the new Abbey Curve, which also led to concern for Kubica. “It was causing problems for a lot of cars. Once I had learned the new section, I started to work on the setup and we changed quite a bit between FP1 and FP2 and found an improvement with the balance.”
