Liuzzi again struggling for top speeds

10 July 2010

Vitantonio Liuzzi was disappointed to languish in fifteenth place on the second practice session timesheets after struggling to achive a sufficient top speed at Silverstone on Friday. The Italian’s best lap time of 1:33.728 was was two and a half seconds down on P1 man Mark Webber and a full second slower than team-mate Adrian Sutil.

Following the Turkish Grand Prix, where Tonio was eliminated in Q1 qualifying before the team discovered a fundamental chassis flaw, Force India switched the chassis - with dazzling results - in Canada. However, following a tricky weekend in Valencia a fortnight ago, the Italian was puzzled by Silverstone’s Friday result.

“I think we are quite competitive on this new track,” he began, having stepped back into the cockpit after tester Paul di Resta drove in the morning.

“We need to understand a few issues on top speed compared to the other car but through the high-speed corners it seems pretty stable and we are in a good position, balance and setup wise.

“It was a little difficult sitting out the first session, particularly at a circuit like this when things are new and not particularly easy. There are a couple of corners we need to figure out in the new section but, overall, I think we can quite happy about the performance today but I really hope we can find a bit more top speed with my car.”
