McLaren decides against exhaust-blown diffusers

10 July 2010

Although a McLaren spokesperson confirmed to GPUpdate.net early on Friday afternoon that the team would run its exhaust-blown diffuser all weekend-long at Silverstone, the Woking outfit elected to change its plans overnight night following problems for drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button in second practice.

The new parts could be clearly seen on Friday, due to their white colour, although the components had been removed by the time third and final free practice commenced on Saturday morning.

“Both drivers experienced the same issues with the blown diffuser, which leads us to conclude that it's an aerodynamic problem rather than a setup problem,” a spokesman explained to Reuters this morning.

“So the decision was made yesterday to revert back to the old floors.”

Having rounded off Friday with 8th and 13th positions, Hamilton and Button completed the hour-long final practice period in 7th and 12th.
