Yamamoto hoping to reward Hispania

10 July 2010

Sakon Yamamoto is hoping to impress his team on Sunday, having stepped into Bruno Senna's Hispania cockpit under mysterious circumstances for the British Grand Prix only. The Japanese reserve driver will set off from 24th on the grid as the red lights go out.

With the news that Senna would not be driving having emerged on Thursday evening, it remains to be seen as to why the Brazilian was not able to compete although Yamamoto is satisfied with his Q1 lap time, which was three tenths of a second down on team-mate Karun Chandhok.

“Yesterday was a momentous day for me, to bring Formula 1 back into my life on my birthday,” the former Super Aguri and Spyker driver began. “I am very pleased about the qualifying result, even though it was a bit difficult because of changing wind directions.

“I like this circuit because it is very challenging for the driver and the new track layout is also quite interesting. We expected to go a bit quicker but the car balance was slightly changed, compared to the morning session - we will have to sort it out for tomorrow. I am looking forward to the race and am going to do as best I can to give something back to the team.”
