McLaren Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh believes that the situation surrounding Red Bull's front wings, which led to a series of questions at Silverstone on Saturday, could cause a distraction for the outfit which has locked out the front row for the British Grand Prix.
The matter goes back to Saturday's third and final practice session, in which fastest man Sebastian Vettel suffered a front wing failure with the team's latest specification of the component, of which two were made.
However, for qualifying later in the afternoon, Red Bull elected to give the second part to Vettel as well, leaving team-mate Mark Webber with an older version.
“Under such circumstances, it's detrimental to the overall performance of the team,” Whitmarsh told reporters, “certainly to the individual who feels he's being stitched up, to use your expression.
“(At McLaren) we try very hard to give both drivers the same equipment at the same time - that's very important.
