Vettel: People have opinions and I have mine

11 July 2010

Sebastian Vettel in unsure whether contact with Lewis Hamilton resulted in his first-lap puncture at Silverstone on Sunday although the German is pleased that a Safety Car period allowed him to make the best of a bad situation.

Having started on pole, Vettel was immediately overtaken by Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber although the slightest contact at Copse corner resulted in a puncture for Sebastian, meaning he finished the first lap over 90 seconds behind the leaders.

“I had a bad start and tried a bit too hard, perhaps, but thats life,” he told the BBC after fighting back to seventh place.

“People said that Lewis touched me but I didn't feel anything - surely it was never his intention to give me a puncture, if he did. It was very unfortunate, though, that I had a puncture. Fortunately the Safety Car came out, so I had some more entertainment and I think the fans appreciated it.”

Sebastian also responded to questions on Webber's post-race comments, broadcast via team radio, which said 'Not bad for a number two driver!'. “I am obviously focused on myself but, especially with what has happened in the past, people have their opinions and I have mine.”
