Hamilton delighted with home result

11 July 2010

Lewis Hamilton was thrilled with his second place finish at Silverstone, having climbed two positions from fourth on the grid. The McLaren driver made the most of a clean start on Sunday, despite a small touch with pole man Sebastian Vettel.

The passing contact between the Red Bull and McLaren resulted in right-rear puncture for German Vettel, with Hamilton then taking second as Fernando Alonso had already endured a poor start.

“I don't think it's a miracle result,” Hamilton said in the post-race press conference. “A result for the hard work. The car was nice to drive, even though perhaps not as fast as Red Bull. This was the maximum result possible, great points for the team and we're still leading the Constructors' Championship as well.

“Mark (Webber) did a phenomenal job – they (Red Bull) are so fast on pure pace. The first couple of laps he was struggling, so there was a bit of a chance. After that, I was doing my qualifying lap every lap but he just kept pulling away.”
