Fantastic result, says relieved Button

11 July 2010

World Champion Jenson Button was delighted to have achieved a 10-place rise to fourth in Sunday's British Grand Prix, narrowly missing out on a podium result. Having started a lowly 14th on the grid, the Frome man was unable to overtake Nico Rosberg for a rostrum finish.

Struggling for any rear end grip on Saturday afternoon, the McLaren driver made a remarkable start to rise from 14th to eighth in the race before then making the most of problems ahead as well as enjoying an efficient strategy.

“That was a great race and I’m so happy to have made up ten places,” he said. “It’s hard to overtake around here, so I knew I had to make up a lot of places off the start line.

“In the event I made up six places but I then had to push really hard on the Option (softer compound) tyre in the first stint.

“That strategy worked for us and I came out behind Fernando (Alonso), who had a drive-through, so I picked up fourth. It’s a pity I couldn’t have overtaken Nico but this is still a fantastic result for me.”
