'Alonso should have yielded' – Kubica

11 July 2010

Robert Kubica believes Fernando Alonso should have given up position in the British Grand Prix, with the Ferrari having overtaken the Renault courtesy of a trip across the grass at Club.
The incident in question occurred on Lap 16 of 52, as the Spaniard attempted the outside line whilst the cars narrowly escaped contact at Vale. Having bounded inside the apex of the following Club Corner, Alonso rejoined ahead of Kubica before pulling away.

“It was a great first lap, gaining a lot of places, then the pace wasn't so good,” Kubica, a known good friend of Alonso, explained to the BBC.

“It was a nice fight with Fernando but he overtook me by cutting the corner; I informed the team and he should have let me past, but then I retired.”

With Robert having soon pitted with a suspected engine failure, Alonso was handed a drive-through penalty for the moment.
