Ferrari suffered a miserable afternoon at Silverstone on Sunday, with Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa coming home in only 14th and 15th positions as the Italian squad failed to score. On a day which included contact between the Scuderia's own two cars, a puncture, spin and drive-through penalty, Team Principal Stefano Domenicali was left pondering what might have been.
Ferrari's British Grand Prix troubles started as early at Lap 1, with Massa and Alonso twice coming together at Becketts, leaving the Brazilian with no option but to pit with a deflated right-rear tyre. Alonso was then handed a drive-through penalty for an off-track pass on Robert Kubica, without yielding the position, but was caught out and had to take the punishment immediately after the Safety Car pulled off the track.
The Maranello squad's day was then compounded by a late-race spin for Massa at Luffield, resulting in a third pit-stop for the Paulista.
“We seem to be really cursed at the moment,” Domenicali commented later, “when everything that could go wrong, does.
"We are not happy but we mustn't feel sorry for ourselves. Instead, we have to react calmly, remained focused and continuing to work in the way we have over the past few weeks.
“We go home with no points but with the knowledge that we have a potential, in terms of the car, the team and the drivers, that is up to the right level to deal with the situation.”
