Lotus registered its first double finish since the season-opening Grand Prix in Bahrain as Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen came home 16th and 17th at Silverstone on Sunday. The result arrived just hours after Hazel Chapman, widow of Lotus founder Colin, officially launched the Hingham squad's new motorhome in the paddock.
With the motorhome now officially open, Lotus once again led the way for Formula 1's newest team as Trulli and Kovalainen both saw the chequered flag for the first time, with Bahrain's result having contained two classifications despite Trulli stopping on-track shortly before the finish.
“I finished the Grand Prix and managed to fight with the other teams after a pretty difficult weekend, so I’m very happy,” said the smiling Italian. “It’s just great for the whole team, as they worked really hard with some difficult problems, but the work paid off...I think we all did a pretty good job!”
Kovalainen was also pleased, having enjoyed his maiden F1 career pole position at Silverstone for McLaren two years ago.
“I think my pace was good all the way through the race but there was constant traffic in front of me,” the Finn commented. “I lost my position on the first lap, which was frustrating, as I then got held up quite a bit. I don’t mind being a lap down but it’s just a shame I couldn’t really push.
“Overall I’m very pleased that we managed to finish where we did and it's been a good day for the team here at Silverstone.”
