My championship situation is compromised, admits Massa

13 July 2010

Felipe Massa makes no secret of the fact that any title hopes he still had took another major knock in the British Grand Prix on Sunday, as he failed to score for the third race in succession. The Brazilian, championship runner-up in 2008, now lies seven places and 78 points behind leader Lewis Hamilton.

Having finished a stunning second in Bahrain after returning from his near-death experience last season, the Ferrari driver achieved another podium finish in Australia before moving into the series lead after the Malaysian Grand Prix. However, having collected only 28 points from a possible 175 since then, Felipe has dropped very much out of contention.

“I don't know what to do but I have to find some way of getting rid of the bad luck which is following me around!” he said after Sunday's race in England.

“In the last few races, everything has happened to me. Today my race was soon over, when I touched with Fernando (Alonso) and got a puncture which dropped me to the back of the pack.

“The car is going well but that's not much use if you can't get a result. The championship is not over after this race but clearly my situation is compromised; I would need a lot of races while others are running into the same difficulties that have come my way in recent races.”
