Williams 'not happy' with first half of season

13 July 2010

Williams F1 admit that the first half of their 2010 season has not run as planned although Technical Director Sam Michael is confident that, by judging the current rate of process and with experienced driver Rubens Barrichello on-board, leaps can be made between Germany and Abu Dhabi.

Williams has generally struggled for pace since Bahrain, with that not being helped by two heavy crashes in Monaco which set both Barrichello and team-mate Nico Hülkenberg back in terms of new car parts, although the team has since scored a total of 23 points in the last two Grands Prix.

“We aren't happy with our first half performance, it hasn't been good enough,” Australian Michael said.

“We're playing development catch-up with the whole car package; that work does seem to be paying off now, but there's still a lot more work to do.”

However, Sam is highly pleased with the work of Barrichello – the most experienced driver in Formula 1 history – as the Brazilian nears his 300th Grand Prix start.

“Rubens is doing a great job driving our development programme, as well as delivering strong qualifying performances and race results,” Michael continued.

“We are very satisfied with his contribution to the team as a whole and specifically with the role he is playing when it comes to which direction we take with the car.”
