'Ferrari has gone through worse moments'

13 July 2010

Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo advises all at Maranello to keep their chins up following a disastrous result at Silverstone which yielded no points on Sunday. The Italian team, which last picked up the Constructors' title in 2008, now sits 113 points (more than a pair of 1-2 finishes) in arrears of leader McLaren.

Having slipped back to fourth in the teams' title race last year, Ferrari fought back in style as a convincing 1-2 result for Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa in Bahrain left the rest of the field worried. However, no driver in red has graced the top step of the podium since.

“There is no point in crying about it and I want the team to tackle the second half of the season in a positive manner,” Montezemolo is quoted as saying by the official F1 website.

“We have gone through much worse moments than this and we have come through them, but clearly we can no longer afford to lose opportunities which, for various reasons, have escaped us in the last two races, even though we had a competitive car.

“As things stand today, qualifying and the start have become the decisive moments, so we must improve in these areas if we want to win. I expect everyone will give 100 percent to bring home points quickly to make up for those we have lost to date. All of us - myself, Domenicali (Team Principal), the engineers, mechanics and drivers - know what everyone, especially our fans, expect.”
