Lotus Racing looks likely to hold on to Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen for a second term in 2011. The word follows other rumours that test driver Fairuz Fauzy, who is making several Friday practice appearances this season, could have been promoted to a race seat.
Lotus achieved its second double classification in a race on Sunday as Trulli came home 16th at Silverstone, one place ahead of his team-mate. Chief Technical Officer Mike Gascoyne has now added that both the Italian and Finn are likely to be retained.
“I think the intention is to stick with the drivers we've got,” he is quoted as saying by ESPN. “I think they're doing a great job.”
Mike added that a confirmation of the re-signings is imminent. “I think we'd like to do that pretty soon,” he said.
“That's the thing with experienced guys; if we give them the car, they can perform with it - Jarno has shown he can still pull the big laps out, when he has a trouble-free weekend, and I think Heikki has got better and better, with his confidence back and a spring in his step.”
