Team boss proud of Sutil’s defending

15 July 2010

Team Manager Andy Stevenson was delighted with Adrian Sutil’s protective stance as the quicker Sebastian Vettel charged up behind the Force India in the British Grand Prix on Sunday.

Although the second German – who had started from pole and was recovering from an early race off and puncture – eventually seized seventh position at The Loop on the penultimate lap of the race, Sutil proceeded to fend off other fellow countrymen Michael Schumacher and Nico Hülkenberg as Stevenson watched on from the pit wall.

“It was a hell of a race they had between them,” he said in Force India’s post-race podcast.

“It was fantastic to watch; obviously, we knew the Red Bull was a quicker car than us but we are quick in a straight line and neither of our drivers give up easily - they both battle hard for every single position.

“Unlikely Michael (Schumacher), who only lasted for six corners defending against Sebastian, I think Adrian managed to do it for seven or eight laps – it was a really, really good effort. It looked like he was going to hold on until the end but I think Sebastian might have…well, he didn’t outwit him but Adrian just left him a little bit too much space and Sebastian took his chance.

“The cars touched - that was the worrying time because we were thinking we could lose it all but we didn’t, we managed to come in eighth. Starting in 11th, and from how the weekend was after qualifying, we’re quite satisfied with that.”

Andy was also thrilled with the race performance of Vitantonio Liuzzi, who finished less than half a second away from the points despite starting 20th after taking a 5-place grid penalty.
