Schumacher expecting ‘emotional’ German experience

17 July 2010

Michael Schumacher looks forward to his first home Grand Prix since returning to Formula 1, which will also mark the first time the 7-time World Champion tackles Hockenheim as a Mercedes Grand Prix driver.

Having first won the German Grand Prix in 1995 before celebrating more success in 2002 and 2004, Michael last raced at home in his final season for Ferrari, leading home 2006 team-mate Felipe Massa in a 1-2 result.

“There is one thing for sure; no matter how long you are around, it is always something special to race in front of your home crowd,” he began.

“At Hockenheim, I will definitely try my best for my fans who give me such a lot of support, especially over the race weekend.

“But the German Grand Prix is very special for any German driver. There are very few areas on any race circuit worldwide comparable to the stadium and, as a driver, you feel that energetic atmosphere when entering. It will be the first time for me to come to Hockenheim as a Mercedes driver and I am very much looking forward to the experience.”

Schumacher added that he is excited about approaching the Mercedes grandstand at Turns 8 and 9, packed full with employees from the company, on a weekend when no less than six German drivers take part.
