Button targets qualifying improvement

18 July 2010

World Champion Jenson Button will be pushing for a better grid position at Hockenheim next weekend, having started his home race at Silverstone from fourteenth. In fact, as the second half of the season begins, the Frome man is yet to start on a front row for McLaren.

Despite being able to rise ten places to fourth and entertain his home crowd in the process at Silverstone, Button admits that starting further up is his chief target in Germany.

“My most memorable experience at Hockenheim must be back in 2004, when I qualified 13th and raced through the field to finish second – so not too dissimilar to my race at Silverstone last week, then!” he laughed.

“After two disappointments in qualifying in Valencia and Silverstone, my aim for this weekend must be to make life easier for myself on Saturday afternoon, so that I can maximize my performance on Sunday without needing to play catch-up during the race.”
