Having tested the component in Friday practice at Silverstone, McLaren eventually elected not to run their exhaust-blown diffuser, although the championship-leading squad will be experimenting further next week.
With the testing restriction in place, race weekends are the only chances teams have had to develop parts in-season since the start of last year.
For this reason, with a total of only three hours available on Friday, McLaren will be running to a particularly tight schedule in order to test the downforce-boosting piece without hindering car setup time.
“This will be another busy weekend for all of us, as we spend Friday working through the changes we’ve made to optimise the blown diffuser,” World Champion Jenson Button explained.
“Hopefully, we’ll have a positive test and will be able to see the benefits of the upgrades in the race for the first time. I’m looking forward to it.”
