I'm staying at Toro Rosso, Buemi confirms
20 July 2010 – Sébastien Buemi has ended speculation that he may not be re-signing with Toro Rosso by confirming otherwise on the team’s website. The statement from the Swiss driver follows Team Principal Franz Tost’s original message last Thursday.
With Tost having mentioned via a team press release that both Buemi and Spanish team-mate Jaime Alguersuari would be staying put for 2011, quotes from Buemi then emerged in Swiss newspaper Blick a day later, explaining that a contract had not yet been finalised.
However, the 21-year-old confirmed his immediate future as the team grouped at its Faenza factory for a mid-summer party on Friday evening, with the news then being posted on the Toro Rosso website today.
“I have been with Red Bull for almost all my motorsport career and I am under contract with them for the foreseeable future, starting with next year, and if I haven’t signed anything, that’s because there is nothing to sign!” he said.
“I am very happy where I am and well aware that I would not be here without Red Bull.”
However, Alguersuari was unable to make the Italian party after his flight from Barcelona was cancelled at late notice.
