Mark Webber put his hands up after qualifying in Germany, having run wide at Turn 1. At Hockenheim with Red Bull Racing for only the second time, the Australian will start on the back half of Row 4 although team-mate Sebastian Vettel was able to archive pole position.
With Vettel enjoying his third consecutive pole position, Silverstone winner Webber will set off from behind the German as well as the much-improved Ferraris of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa.
“I got a little bit wide on the entry to Turn 1, my fault, and it wasn’t good enough so I lost a position to Felipe on the final lap, so that was a shame,” Webber told BBC Sport.
“Not the best qualifying but the race is tomorrow. It would have been nice to be amongst it all but Seb did a good job for pole, so a good job for the team.”
