Button: Red Bull pace is worrying

24 July 2010

World Champion Jenson Button admitted on Saturday that he is concerned by the pace of German Grand Prix pole position winners Red Bull Racing. With their two cars plus the two Ferraris occupying the first two rows of the starting grid at Hockenheim, the Frome man is the leading McLaren.

Button out-qualifies team-mate Lewis Hamilton for the fourth time in eleven races this season although Jenson was not celebrating after qualifying, despite being pleased with the performance of his own car.

“I was happy with Q3; we worked well with the car in qualifying and we’re pretty happy with the lap but I don’t know where 7 tenths is, so that’s the worry for me,” he explained to BBC Sport.

“It was a pretty good lap and I’m just one tenth behind third, which isn’t so bad – surprising, we’ve definitely made a step forward because the car is good around here, but hopefully tomorrow we’ll see a good performance with the car.

“On Friday morning the car was very pointy, but we know what it was and we’ve improved that now. We just don’t have the pace of the Red Bulls, which is quite worrying really, but the first lap is often pretty hectic so we can have a good race.”
