Last run wasn’t perfect, smiles Vettel

24 July 2010

Sebastian Vettel was naturally all smiles following German Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday afternoon, having picked up his third straight pole position as well as the top spot ahead of his home Grand Prix tomorrow.

With Ferrari making a rapid comeback to fight for pole once again, Fernando Alonso achieves his first front row starting place of the year although the Red Bull man edges out the Spaniard by just two thousandths of a second.

“It will be interesting to work out how much two thousandths of a second is,” Vettel laughed in the post-session press conference.

“Fernando was very strong and Ferrari are generally very competitive. It was very exciting and from Q2 I knew we would have one lap to get it right.

“My last run wasn't 100 percent perfect; I had a bit here or there, from when I went over the limit, but in the end it was enough…by nearly nothing(!)…to stay ahead and get pole - I am extremely happy.”
