Jaime Alguersuari was pleasantly surprised to have bettered the Q2 lap time of Toro Rosso team-mate Sébastien Buemi at Hockenheim. With the two Italian cars lining up 16th and 17th for the German Grand Prix, the Spaniard therefore starts ahead of the Swiss for the second time this season, with China having been the first.
As Shanghai’s race was held back in mid-April, it is three months since Jaime first held the upper hand over Sébastien in qualifying.
“To be honest, I did not expect to be quicker than my team-mate today, as it has been a difficult weekend with not so much practice on a dry track,” said the Barcelona man.
“Therefore I found it hard to get up to speed in the dry but in the end I managed it in qualifying, even if I might have been able to improve by one or two tenths.
“If it stays like this for the race, who knows what might happen, as it is possible that tyre degradation will be a factor that might help me move up the order.”
