Sauber have scored World Championship points in three of the last four race although both Kamui Kobayashi and Pedro de la Rosa were left feeling somewhat irritated at Hockenheim, as they qualified twelfth and fifteenth on Saturday. However, a top ten race result still remains very much the target for the former.
Half a second separated the two white cars although it was a narrower margin which kept Kobayashi, who made a mistake at Turn 1 during his final Q2 lap, out of the top ten shootout.
“I am not happy because I should have gone through into Q3,” said the Japanese. “The car was good and the performance in qualifying confirmed that, but on my second run in Q2 I had traffic and needed to slow down a bit.
“Obviously this wasn’t good for the tyre temperatures and I had a lack of grip afterwards. However, from 12th on the grid I should still be able to score points tomorrow.”
“I was certainly hoping to make it into Q3,” Spaniard de la Rosa added. “Overall, I think we have been closer to the top ten than expected. The car was good and it will be the same in the race tomorrow. On my second run in Q2, I pushed too hard and had a couple of big moments - I obviously couldn’t improve my lap time like that.”
