Ferrari Team Principal Stefano Domenicali has responded to much criticism in the German Grand Prix paddock by explaining that he believes Felipe Massa was slower and therefore right to allow Fernando Alonso passed.
Although many argue that team orders should be permitted, they have been officially banned in the sport since the uproar caused by Ferrari at the 2002 Austrian Grand Prix when Michael Schumacher was been allowed past Rubens Barrichello at the finish.
“I was with the President, I had to report to him,” Domenicali told BBC Sport of his phone call with Ferrari’s Luca di Montezemolo. “We discussed before the start of the race, so it was good to finish this race in these conditions and I’m very pleased for that.
“I already know the question…to be honest, we felt Felipe was a little bit slower and Vettel was catching up. Honestly, I don’t think there’s much point in (talking about) that…team orders are not a problem.”
Furthermore, Stefano does not expect to be called before the FIA Race Stewards over the matter. “To be honest I don’t think so, but we’ll see – we are totally up for that,” he replied.
