Gearbox and slow puncture hinder Hispania

26 July 2010

Hispania Racing’s German Grand Prix was heavily compromised by technical issues for Bruno Senna and Sakon Yamamoto, leaving the Spanish team with one retirement and the final finishing position in the race on Sunday.

Yamamoto raced again at Hockenheim, with the reserve driver this time replacing Karun Chandhok as opposed to Senna, although the Japanese was forced to pull over during the early stages when affected by gearbox problems in the sector second of the lap.

“I appreciate that the team has given me another chance to race in Germany,” he began, “but it was a disappointing race for the team because we couldn’t achieve the target to finish with two cars.

“Over the weekend, we were able to improve our performance but, unfortunately, we had some issues on the car and the gearbox. All in all, the race weekend was better than at Silverstone and I could get more experience with the car. We tried some adjustments on the setup which will help us for the next races.”

“We were having a good race today and we were very competitive this weekend,” added Senna, who ended the day four laps down in 19th. “We could race the others but then we had a slow puncture, unfortunately - we had to do an unplanned pit-stop which ended our challenge.”
