McLaren drivers braced for damaging weekend

30 July 2010

McLaren appeared to be off the pace in the three hours of practice on Friday and post-session comments from Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button have confirmed that the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend promises to dent their attacks in both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships.

McLaren are yet to win since picking up consecutive pairs of 1-2 finishes in Turkey and Canada and the non-victorious run looks set to continue in Budapest, as 2007 and 2009 winner Hamilton confirms.

“We're massively down in the middle sector, almost a second,” he began. “Then there’s a couple of tenths in the first and last sectors…I think the last sector's almost half a second but we’re pushing and doing the best job we can.

“With the package we have, we're getting around the optimum from it so it means we've got a lot of work to do and I guess this weekend's just about scoring as many points as we can while hoping the guys ahead have troubles.”

“It's going to be very tricky,” Button emphasised. “The Red Bull is just so fast – they’ve done one minute-twenty and we can’t get near the low one minute-21s…”
