Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and Lotus’ Heikki Kovalainen have both received fines from Formula 1 governing body the FIA after being caught speeding in the Hungaroring pit lane on Friday.
For safety reasons, due to the close proximity of team personnel in the area, a 60km/h (37.2mph) speed limit governs the pit lane for practice sessions although both drivers were recorded at speeds in excess during the second Friday session in Hungary.
With 200 euros (just under 170 pounds) being charged for each kilometre which is over the limit, Lotus pick up a fine of 600 euros for a speed of 62.5km/h whereas Ferrari’s penalty is 1,200 euros for a velocity of 65.2km/h.
