Martin Whitmarsh has dubbed McLaren as the ‘quickest fixed-wing vehicles’ in the aftermath of qualifying in Hungary, referring to his opinion that Red Bull and Ferrari are running front wings which flex are therefore illegal. However, Red Bull counterpart Christian Horner is concentrating only on the job in hand.
With McLaren fifth and 11th on the grid and Team Principal Whitmarsh suggesting a ‘clarification of what’s permissible’, Horner also spoke to BBC Sport.
“Well the regulations are quite clear - there’s a clear FIA test that the cars have to have and we’re happy with that,” he said.
“This week it's the front wing, last week it was active ride height, the week before that it was suspension, before that it was a diffuser - next week it might be the paint, you never know…
“We’re focussed on our own performance and for us it’s what we do on-track. We’re starting in a fantastic position tomorrow, so hopefully we can get out heads down and let the others get on with their own races.
“I haven’t heard from Martin but I’m sure if he has a problem he has the right to go and protest like any other team, but I haven’t heard from Martin this weekend.”
