World Champion Jenson Button languishes in 11th on the grid and is therefore set for his second consecutive difficult Grand Prix in Hungary, having picked up his maiden Formula 1 win at the Hungaroring for Honda in 2006.
Lewis Hamilton leads the way for McLaren in fifth although Button’s personal best effort of 1:21.292 is an enormous two and a half seconds down on pole-sitters Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull Racing.
“In practice the car was working well and I think we had a pretty good balance, but in qualifying I couldn’t find a good balance for it,” Button explained to reporters in the Budapest paddock.
“We changed the car a little bit, not a lot, but the good thing is we are on the clean side so can hopefully fight from there.
“The car was very well balanced this morning, I was pretty happy with it. We’re obviously not on the pace of a couple of the teams - this afternoon we just didn’t have the speed.”
