Yamamoto pleased with Saturday showing

1 August 2010

Sakon Yamamoto will start at the back of the grid in Hungary this afternoon although the reserve driver for Hispania, who replaces Karun Chandhok for the second race in a week, has qualified just half a tenth slower than team-mate Bruno Senna.

Seven tenths of a second down on Senna in Saturday morning’s free practice session, Yamamoto made up much time in qualifying.

“I am quite happy with this result for the team, which worked really hard and provided me a good car,” said the Japanese driver. “The track conditions have changed compared to the practice session in the morning and it was a bit slippery.

“Consequently, it was a challenging qualifying and I could have done a better result but, unfortunately, I lost some time in the last sector of my fastest lap.

“Apart from that, we have been able to improve over the weekend and we’re looking forward to the race tomorrow, which is going to be a long one. I’ll try to concentrate from the beginning until the end and to put in my best performance.”
