Force India plans to race blown diffuser in Belgium

2 August 2010

Force India ran its exhaust-blown diffuser for the first time on Friday although technical problems prevented the car of Adrian Sutil, which had the part on-board, from conducting a full analysis. However, Team Manager Andy Stevenson is confident that it will be used when Formula 1 resumes in Belgium at the end of the month.

The back-to-back races in Germany and Hungary have signalled a tough time for the Silverstone-based team, which has failed to score with either car. However, Stevenson remains upbeat despite knowing the challenge which lies forth.

“We’ve found a few things we need to improve but we’ve already got plans in place for that and hopefully we will be racing it at Spa,” he said of the blown diffuser in the team’s official post-Hungary podcast.

“Pace has been incredibly fast this year as far as development is concerned, so whilst we were very quick at the start of the year with our development I think people have caught up slowly.

"We’ve got another wave of developments that we’re going to put on now, so hopefully that can put us back in front of our competitors.

“Williams and Renault are very strong at the moment but I think, with the blown diffuser and a few other bits and pieces that we’re planning to bring on, we can get back in the fight again for those positions of five, six and seven.”
