Hamilton: We’re hanging on for dear life

4 August 2010

Lewis Hamilton is fully aware of the threat surrounding his bid for a second world title this year, with Red Bull Racing having moved into the lead of both the drivers’ and constructors’ standings after Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

Prior to Budapest and the subsequent month-long summer break, Hamilton had held the overall lead since winning the Canadian Grand Prix in mid-June although the 2008 Champion is now second and four points behind most recent race victor Mark Webber.

“If I was to sit here and say I am confident I will win the World Championship, that would not be right,” the Stevenage man is quoted as saying by newspaper The Telegraph.

“But I have to remain optimistic. I have enough in me to win the championship but whether we will have the package to deliver, I can’t answer.

“We just have to keep working. We are hanging on for dear life.”
